One of our volunteers, Pam, recently had to send her 14 year old golden retriever, Freeman, to the Rainbow Bridge. His cancer had returned, he was tired and he let his mom know that it was time for him to earn his angel wings.
Pam found Freeman two years ago at a local shelter. He was hours from euthanasia…miserable, depressed, shaven, overweight and being relentlessly antagonized by other dogs in his run. She pulled him that day, began fostering him and ultimately could not let him go. She knew he was already home.
While Pam fostered Freeman for a fellow rescue group, anyone who ever met him was charmed by his mischievous twinkling eyes, his penchant for dragging “gifts” (blankets, vacuum cleaners, etc.) to the front door to greet you and his ear to ear smile. A far cry from the dog who was simply waiting to die in the shelter. He got his second chance and we have no doubt that the 22 months he spent with Pam were the best of his life.
In honor of her wonderful golden boy, Pam has founded The Freeman Fund here at A Better Life – Pet Rescue. This fund is designed to help dogs like Freeman who have exhausted their time at shelters and who, without our help, would face certain death. The first recipient of this fund, Logan, arrived into our rescue on June 13. Like Freeman, his time was up at the same shelter. He was viciously attacked by another dog while in his run. But now…….he will have that second chance.
If you would like to help dogs like Freeman and Logan, please donate below (by check or PayPal) and make sure you add that it is for The Freeman Fund.
Dogs like Freeman made a difference in this world. Let’s hope we all can say the same.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible. We will gladly take donations in the form of food, crates, collars, leashes, treats and any toys. Please go to our about us or FAQ page if you would like to learn more about joining our foster program.
